Westland & Piet Nieuwenhuysen - lines

A painting of a 93 years old Piet Nieuwenhuysen, painted in the comparitvely short period in which he was highly productive, between 1960 and 1980. Leading a solitary life in an old farm the heart of the Westland, he painted his surroundings: greenhouses, chimneys, greenhouses. The intersecting lines of the still low built greenhouses, the lines of a single window, an empty befroom. The verticals of the then still functional brick chimneys and windscreen walls. Still alive, no longer painting a modest exhibition was recently held at the Westland Museum. Modest but captivating by its intensity.  image: "in between greenhouses".
